Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need planning permission for my loft conversion?
No not necessary, a loft conversion can be completed under permitted/ lawful development. This is subject to checks.
  • How much does a loft conversion cost in Hampshire/Dorset?
A base price for a single bedroom and bathroom conversion can start from as little as £19k. For an extensive conversion, increasing the size of the property, prices could start from £80k.
  • Is a loft conversion cheaper than an extension?
Most of the time, yes, because when you have an extension a lot of money can be spent on footings and groundworks.
  • What is the most expensive part of a loft conversion?
This is usually the structure and the insulation.
  • Are loft conversions worth it?
Yes, of course! With the cost of houses on a constant rise, adding another room is a more cost-effective way to get the space your family requires and add value to your property. For example, selling your house incurs estate agent fees, consultancy and legal fees. You have to take into consideration the price increase for a larger property. 90% of the time you can add the extra space required to your existing property for a fraction of this cost.
  • How long does a loft conversion take to complete?
The average loft conversion takes approximately 8 weeks.
  • Can my loft be converted?
If you have a minimum height of 2.3 m in your loft space, then yes this can be converted. A smaller roof can also be converted, but this can incur more extensive work.
  • Can a truss roof be converted?
    Yes, with additional structural supports.
  • Is it difficult to put a bathroom in a loft conversion?
This can easily be achieved by extending the existing pipework from the lower floor.
